After the
success of his 2006 exhibition, Guillaume Bottazzi's second solo show at
Gallery Itsutsuji opens on Thursday May the 14th (to June the 20th)
Twenty, mostly large-scale, abstract paintings, where Bottazzi employs a staining
technique
to apply transparent pigments directly to the raw canvas. From his vantage point at the forefront
of a contemporary art world marked by intense change, Bottazzi continues to wield classical
techniques in his quest to push the boundaries of abstract painting. His works are a catalyst,
inducing the viewer to embark on a creative journey.
To do this he previously used light to suggest spatial re-creation, he introduces
in this
exhibition a sketch quality in the artwork to invite the viewer to expand the painting.
Guillaume Bottazzi is a French artist born in 1971.
He started his professional artist career in 1989 in Italy. Italian art made a profound impression on him
during this period, one that would stay with the painter for the rest of his life. He has lived, worked and exhibited in New York
a few years in early 2000s and later in Tokyo. He is now living in France. Guillaume Bottazzi realized twenty permanent
site-specific art works;he enjoys to put his work in an architectural or urban context.
